finished work, progress and a rough round trip

May 1 might seem like an odd time to be finishing up the knitting of a sweater, but it's still downright cold here (at least today), so it doesn't feel so odd to me

after completely removing the sleeves, ripping them out and re-knitting them, I can at last declare this item FINISHED!!

I'll start doing the swatching on the next project soon
this piece is moving along nicely

when I stitched the previous ones I had a very planned color map to work from

this one is being done "on the fly" which is interesting

the supply order for the new beads I ordered should be here today, so this one will probably get set aside while I make up the order for my customer -- it's keeping me hopping!

the weather yesterday was more like January than May -- except that in January we were having record high temperatures

it made the 144 mile round trip to Denver a bit of  a pain

there were times we could barely see the cars ahead of us

ick!

we did manage to get to the Denver Mart and get the majority of this weekend's show hung

there were a few artists that could not get their quilts to us, so those will get hung today (or whenever they can dig out and get there!)

today I'm not going anywhere --- need to recover!

I'll be back at the show this weekend though

doing a very happy dance

what do these three quilts have in common (aside from being my work)?

they have ALL been accepted in the upcoming Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts Fabric Art Show

I did the application for this a few weeks ago and decided I was not going to talk about it anywhere because I just wasn't sure any of them would get in.

The email came this morning -- two days ahead of when I expected it -- and I'm thrilled -- I printed out the email so I could re-read it -- over, and over, and OVER!

cool, so cool

As we get a bit closer to the actual show I'll be posting more details so those of you that are in the area can come and take a look if you're interested

Finished the bead work yesterday

I really like how this looks

Today I hope to get the backing and the pin attached

then on to the next thing!

bummed

beware of sharp kitchen tools

yesterday, while my sister was here I was trying to get the new slicer set up to use for making coleslaw

and got a little too close to that razor sharp blade

this was the "put pressure on it to control the bleeding" bandage -- several layers of gauze and some tight tape

and yes, the darker areas on the gauze in the photo is where it bled through

before my sister left, she helped me re-bandage it -- more gauze, an aluminum protective sleeve and some "horse tape" and I'm planning to just leave it alone until tomorrow morning

I had some light weight disposable gloves on hand that I use when I'm doing painting or dye work, and I cut a finger off of one to put a waterproof cover over the bandage

not good timing -- between the DH and I we have two left hands, which doesn't make for very coordinated doing of anything

and I'm not real good at just sitting, so I'll be trying to figure out something I can work on while this heals

now days its not only the mail man that brings the bad news -- when I opened my email this morning I got the notification that the pieces I had entered in a gallery show later in the year didn't make the cut

{sigh}

oh well (and now I really need to get those forms made up so I can keep track to which pieces have been entered were)

heading off to nurse my wounds

on to the next deadline

which is the first part of October when I need to have all of my items ready for the November/December show

this is the first finished item specifically for that

I put in the zipper and the lining yesterday -- love that I was actually able to get some fabric that had exactly the same colors in it!

another felted bag is on the "to do" list for this show, but I'm going to finish the Zinnia Scarf first (and it is at about 60% done, so I'm whipping right along there)

one of the things that I must have for that show is some kind of hang tags that are big enough to put in washing instructions, material content, etc., etc.

so I needed to come up with something different that I've used for years for my teddy bears and jewelry

a while back I acquired a package of 2 1/2 by 5 inch cards that are scored in the middle to make cards out of (they were bought for another purpose and the score in the middle made them unusable for that purpose, so they've just been sitting around)

they're about the perfect size -- and I'm thinking about using this little graphic on the front of them -- experimentation is in progress

time to get moving -- we need to go and vote, then on to the hardware store for the rest of the needed sod and lawn edging to finish the fence edging

onward!
