three of the little links are done now too
the other two should be finished today -- I hope
the main issue with those last two links is that I'm still working out how to attach the clasp to them and still maintain the beaded edging
then I can string this piece together -- neat!
last night was our guild meeting
our guild supports two local charities with quilts, and I've tried to do my part each year (last year I did 12 quilt tops for one of them)
in March we always have some kind of charity project related program, and last night our committee chairman brought in the latest 69 quilts that have been completed and will be delivered to Safe Passage in the next week -- it was fun to see what had been chosen as backs and how the quilting had been done on some of the ones I had stitched together
at the end of the meeting she had 3 jelly rolls of fabric that she wanted volunteers to stitch into more tops -- I took one of them (actually, she tossed it across the room to me) looking forward to creating some more quilts from this
I wish that this particular charity was not so necessary -- it's disturbing to know that in a town the size of ours that 1000 children were in some way abused last year -- but it makes me feel like I'm doing something worth while when I can do some small thing to help even one of those children know that not all adults are like that
does this fabric look even vaguely familiar?
heh, yeah
this was the Hoffman Challenge fabric for 2011 (I did a piece last year for that competition)
someone in the guild had a bolt of this stashed away, and we're having a guild challenge to create something out the of fat quarter piece each of us was given
to be shared at the July meeting -- I have an idea (I think)
and while we're speaking about the Hoffman Challenge, I spent about an hour yesterday doing the frog stitch on this year's piece --- I just was not happy with the way the two taller vases looked once I got that third one on --- the third one was just so much better by comparison --- made a little trip to the local quilt store for a piece of fabric and a spool of thread to change the colors --- the pink is gone --- now back to the stitching
every year our quilt guild raffles off a quilt as a fund raiser that helps keep our charity work going as well as pay for the occasional guest speaker
this is a photo of this year's quilt
a king size quilt, it is made of all batik fabrics, and it is lovely
it was on display last night at our meeting at the front of the room, so I was looking at it for probably 2 hours and didn't even notice until I was tweeking this photo this morning the "hidden" pattern in it
how cool!
I have tickets for this lovely, and I'd be happy to facilitate you having a chance to win it -- just drop me a note and we'll arrange it!
as always, during a program I work on some kind of knitting
finished this afghan square and started another one
and was able to help out another guild member who was struggling with figuring out the pattern she's knitting on -- glad to help!
so today will be a low key affair -- a quick trip to the grocery store and then a lot of reminding the DH to drink fluids
seems that while the person in the doctor's office couldn't manage to do his blood draw, she did give him her cold --- I am beyond angry --- GRRRRR!
